John Clifford Baxter died by gunshot wound apparently self inflicted, in the emergency lane, his car parked beside a Houston freeway. Baxter avoided possible prosecution with his death, but we may never know. Ken Lay, who may have alluded to Baxter as well as himself in his post-conviction speech [“All things work for good to those who love the Lord”] died of health complications in a vacation rental with his family following his trial conviction while awaiting federal appeal.
