What if American employees had extra-marital affairs with the locals in Tehran?  Would that be one of the “secrets” Khomeini used as leverage in his diplomatic confrontation with President Carter and the United States from on or about April, 1979, when the hostages were taken until the inauguration of President Ronald Reagan on January 20, 1980 [or until now? Sex outside the norms of the host community could create bargaining chips or in the American hostages’ case, collateral.
