I kinda remember how I felt when I heard Send in the Clowns but it’s different now as I’m the clown they’re sending in.

There was a clown at the time sold in children’s toy stores called the roly poly clown. It may be referred to indirectly in the Donovan lyrics to Hurdy Gurdy Man like “Send in the Clowns” of war.
