I kinda remember how I felt when I heard “Send in the Clowns” but it’s different now as I am the clown they’re sending in this time.

See also “Hurdy Gurdy Man” by Donovan (1968)

There was a clown at the time sold in children’s toy stores called the roly poly clown. It may be referred to indirectly in the Donovan lyrics to Hurdy Gurdy Man like “Send in the Clowns” of war.

Credit: Paul Rubens for singing the refrain of “Hurdy Gurdy Man” for me over my voice mail system.
