#JohnAdams may not have been the only signer of the Declaration of Independence, but he was still alive to see and act as Vice President while much of the Constitution was being drawn up. A major lawyer from New England, he had this to say about that: On “philosophes”: “I know not what to make of a republic of thirty million atheists.” New York, then the Capitol of the fledgling United States, 1789.
