| Family courts around the country have acknowledged the existence of the phenomenon of parental alienation. Courts have used different terms and labels when dealing with this psychological abuse, such as “pathogenic parenting,” “brainwashing,” “programming,” etc. A judicial or clinical finding of parental alienation could lead to serious consequences, which may include change of custody, modification of parenting time, financial sanctions, and even incarceration in severe cases that may include contempt findings. When litigating cases involving parental alienation cases, family law practitioners often face propaganda of misinformation. It is important for practitioners to learn about this propaganda of misinformation and be prepared to debunk it. This CLE program will address some of the commonly encountered myths or misinformation that practitioners encounter when litigating cases involving parental alienation. |
