I see why they cast the kid from The Sixth Sense in Pay it Forward–No one could afford to (pay it forward) by then. I left a dollar in the change tray of the self-check out teller at Fresh and Easy Neighborhood Market. I can afford it.

Fair Banking and Lending Ordinance Hearing and Vote Before Los Angeles City Council 01-30-2012: Comment : CHECKS AND BALANCES
Hearing and Vote of Los Angeles City Council on Fair Banking Ordinance: 01-30-2012
THIS ORDINANCE PROVIDES THE NECESSARY CHECKS AND BALANCES TO ACHIEVE STABILITY BETWEEN THE BUYER AND SELLER OF REAL PROPERTY IN LOS ANGELES.
IT’S BEEN RUMORED WE’VE BEEN RIPPING-OFF THE INDIGENOUS AND SO-CALLED “UNDER-CLASS” PEOPLES OF THIS LAND CALLED AMERICA IN LABOR, TREASURE AND RESOURCES FOR OVER FIVE HUNDRED YEARS. IT’S TIME FOR THIS STATE AND THIS CITY TO REVIEW HOW BANKS, BROKERS AND INSURANCE COMPANIES (THE “OWNERSHIP SOCIETY” PROMOTORS) HAVE IMPACTED COMMUNITIES HERE IN LOS ANGELES OVER THE PAST DECADE. MAYBE THE REGULATORS HAVE ALREADY FIXED THE PROBLEM NATIONALLY, BUT I DON’T SEE THE REMEDIES WORKING HERE VERY WELL. THE PROPOSED ORDINANCE ATTEMPTS TO RECONCILE THE COMPETING INTERESTS OF THE CONSUMER AND FINANCIAL PROVIDERS IN A FAIR AND RESPONSIBLE MANNER AND I ASK MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL TO VOTE IN FAVOR OF IT. MANY ANGELENOS NEED A LIFELINE BUT MANY ARE FINDING QUICKSAND.
After writing this, I continued thinking about the fall-out from the so-called “Mortgage Crisis” and the human suffering which is occurring not just overseas in Iraq and Afghanistan post-911, but here in “America” as well. The ownership society was promoted post-911 to shore up our “economy” but where’s the follow through now? I feel like we as individuals were “pumped and dumped.” Let’s get started came to my mind. A swami told me once: “act: don’t react.” Father Leo, the celebrant at Mass tonight said we would do well to provide a “life-line” to others. Later, I met a 93-year old woman at Ralph’s market who told me she is being evicted from her West Hollywood home by the banks who bought a Lehman Bros. mortgage. They would not allow her a Make Home Affordable Modification. She said the story of Robin Hood had been rewritten. In the original Robin Hood, Robin Hood stole from the rich and gave to the poor. Nowadays she said, Robin is stealing from the poor and giving to the rich. Her name is Hilda. I invited her to the Hearing and Vote next week. She’s going to tell her attorney, who’s handling her case, about the Ordinance vote.
Remember, they got the figures WRONG…so wrong. Alleviation of human suffering is priority #1!
